Police smash One-Chance, phone Robbers' Gang
A gang of two notorious armed hoodlums suspects who specialised in "one- chance" robbery and handsets snatching along the Ogidi/Nkpor/Tarzan and Umunya axis in Anambra state has been nabbed by the state police command.
Recovered from them are two firearms, twelve assorted telephone handsets, a huge cash sum of two hundred and ninety-six thousand Maura. (N296,000). The money was reasonably suspected to have been stolen from numerous victims at gun point.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, "at about 4.30am on Sept 6,2020 about 4:30am, a credible intelligence report obtained by police operatives attached to Ogbunike Division smashed the robbery syndicate and arrested two suspected armed bandits.
"Consequently, Chukwuemeka Ikechukwu "m' aged 22 years of Chibest Street,Tarzan area in Nkpor, and Tochukwu Okeke 'm' aged 30 years of Nkwelle Ukeh in Idemili North council of the state were arrested.
"Investigation revealed that they were part of the gang allegedly involved in series of armed robbery and handset snatching operating at Ogidi,Nkpor,Tarzan,Umunya,Odomodo,tollgate axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Federal highway and its environs.
"Some exhibits recovered in their possession includes one automatic pump action with breech no 12776,one English manurhin pistol, one dagger, two hand bags, twelve assorted handsets, one purse containing recharge cards of various denomination, one tricycle Keke with REG.number NSH 299 QH,One locked Safe containing unspecified amount of money and cash sum of Two hundred and ninety Six thousand Naira(#296,000) all reasonably suspected to have been snatched from different victims." He said.
Haruna pointed out that the case is still under investigation after which suspects would be prosecuted.
The police Command has however called on the members of the public whose handsets and other belongings were either snatched or stolen through similar modus to report at Ogbunike Division or the comnand Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) at Akwuzu in order to claim their property and also give further evidence to aid Police investigation.
The Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP John Abang has also passionately urged all law abiding citizens to be vigilant especially during the ember months.
