FG Sets To Sanction CNN Over Alleged Irresponsible Journalism
The Federal Government of Nigeria has threatened to sanction CNN for it's investigative report that Nigeria Army actually shot live bullets on the#EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate in Lagos State on 20th October.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed dropped this threat during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
The minister described the report by the reputable foreign news medium as irresponsible journalism.
He alleged that CNN relied on social media videos without verification to produce its report which according to him should earn the outfit a serious sanction.
Lai Mohammed claimed that some unscropulous persons circulated fake news on the social media that turned a peaceful demonstration into a violent one across the country.
The minister said insisted that the nation's security agents fired blank bullets on the #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate even as he described the event of October 20, 2020 as a 'massacre without bodies' as no family has come up to contradict the military.
Lai Mohammed urged individuals with evidence on Lekki to give its testimony before the panel of enquiry set up to look into the incident.
Meanwhile, CNN in a response to sanction threat said it stands by the report which according to the news medium was thoroughly investigated.
