Military Battle Unkonwn Gunmen In Anambra Community


The sleepy town of Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Goverment Area of Anambra State witnessed a heavy shooting and bombing on Saturday as the heavily armed Nigerian Army led security agencies took the battle to the hideout of the unknown gunmen in community.

A source claimed that all the roads leading to the town were closed very early in the morning to prevent any of the unknown gunmem from escaping the onslaught.

He said that as a result of the gun duel, market and other commercial activities were paralyzed through out the day because of the heavy shooting between the security forces and the hoodlums.

"Our experience in Ukpor on Saturday through Sunday is akin to that of war experience, the shootings are better imagined than real, people holed up in their houses without getting out to avoid being hit by stray bullets. It was not a funny experience at all." He noted.

Another source who also confirmed the shootings said that the military operation in Ukpor the headquarters of Nnewi South Local Goverment Area of Anambra State was a welcomed development.

He pointed out that the unknown gunmem have really turned the hitherto peaceful town to their operational base where innocent people are kidnapped, extorted and killed.

"We pray that this will end the atrocious activities of the gunmen operating from our community, they have cowed us into submission, each household are billed certain amount to get protection depending on the area of the town. Any family that fails to do their bidding will have members abducted for ransom or even killed.

"We support the actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra but what the hoodlums under the guise of agitations are doing to our people is outrageous, you can't possibly be killing and abducting the same people you claim you are fighting for, something has fundamentally gone wrong" He said.
