Tension in Umuoji as assailants kill PG

The sleepy town of Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State has been thrown into panic as unknown persons over the weekend allegedly broke into the house of the President General(PG) of the community, Chief Silas Onyima and killed him.

The community leader who is popularly known as Chief Sly was discovered in the pool of his own blood naked, inside a bathtub in his bathroom.

The people contacted for comment over the unfortunate incident have all kept sealed lips as no one wants to be quoted over the assassination.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State command, Tochukwu Ikenga (DSP) has confirmed the incident, saying the command was working with locals to identify the killers.

He said that the body of the slain community leader has been recovered.

“Yes, I’m aware of the incident. The command immediately sent operatives there, and body of the PG has been retrieved. We are working with locals to identify the perpetrators of the act, in order to bring them to book. Calm has also been restored in the area," he said.

The former senator representing Anambra Central senatorial district, Iyom Uche Ekwunife has condemned the brutal murder of Umuoji PG.
