I'm determined to restore peace, lost glory of Umunze, PG declares

The President General(PG) of Umunze Progressive Union(UPU) in Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, Engr. Iheazu Onyinyechukwu, has identified restoration of lasting peace and lost glory of the community as some of the top priorities of his leadership in the area. 

Engr. Onyinyechukwu said that the election that produced him as the new PG of Umunze community was held on 14th January, 2024 and that by God's grace and the people of the town, he emerged the winner of the election, describing the election as free, fair and credible.

The PG, who made this known during a chat with journalists said as a matter of fact that in the last twenty years or more Umunze had no elected President General, but had been operating under the acting or caretaker committees, which he noted was not recognized by the people and the government.

He pointed out that there was a time he was a treasurer of one of the caretaker committees but added that government do not recognize caretaker committees, but substantive President General who emerged from a proper election with mandate to execute any project for the community.

Engr Onyinyechukwu pointed out that his number one priority was to restore peace in his Umunze community and also restore the lost glory of the community as his leadership has initiated many programs and projects.

He said his administration would hit the ground running by reviewing the constitution of the town which according to him was drafted in 1982, noting that a committee has been set up to that effect. 

The PG also noted that committees such as; works, health, recovery and assets, agric, revenue and security among others have been set up but added that his leadership is desirous of erecting a befitting Secretariat for the community as well as rehabilitate the dilapidated and vandalized town hall built and handed over to the community by one of the philantropists in the community. 

He said further that his leadership has program to rejuvenate the hospitals, security and schools  in the area, which according to him are all dilapidated.

Engr Onyinyechukwu said that his administration is working closely with the youth wing of the town union, as well as the women wing with a view  to developing a synergy among the three groups in order to further the cause of the town.

The President General who retired as a Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja, urged the people not to hesitate to contribute their time, energy, money, positive advise and every other things to restore the battered image of the town.
