Take responsibility for your development - legal practitioner tells Anambra boys
A legal practitioner, Dr Akachukwu Maduakonam has challenged boys in the Anambra state to take responsibility for their own development.
Maduakonam however said the boy child needed attention and support from parents, government and society to facilitate the development.
The legal practitioner spoke during an event to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Boy Child.
"The event, themed "Boys Today, Great Men Tomorrow", was organized by Anambra State Civil and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) in collaboration with E-KEEPAS ENTERPRISE.
He said, "The boy child has to take responsibility for his own development and can't outsource self development, which requires all his attention, time and energy.
"For the parents, there's need to change how we train them. The set of boys are different from what we had during our own time.
"There's also need to pay attention to their peculiarities, acknowledging that the boy child is exploration by nature.
"He needs all the opportunity to be able to explore. He needs correction, guidance and tolerance especially when he makes mistakes so he can blossom
"For government and stakeholders, especially in education sector, there's need to provide more opportunities for their self development, including mentorship and facilities for innovation.
"More importantly, as a society, we need to more tolerable to them and allow them some liberty to make mistakes and be outliners.
"They require some level of support from the system and society rather than being written off as failures."
Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor warned youths in the state against engaging in internet fraud, popularly known as "Yahoo yahoo", describing it is sure path to failure in life.
Mefor who chaired the occasion, advised teenagers, particularly secondary school boys, to shun internet fraud, emphasizing that it is a shortcut to nowhere.
"A young boy that wants to succeed must not join yahoo yahoo because it is a recipe for failure. There's no shortcut to wealth without hard work. Internet fraud leads to nowhere but failure.
"Hard work, wisdom, and fear of God are the principles that guide every Igbo man to greatness. Achieving wealth requires dedication and hard work," he said.
