Anambra Approaches Development Horizontally, Progressively At 34....Commissioner For Culture And Tourism

The journey surrounding the creation of the new Anambra State in 1991,has been described as a good one,though tortuous because of the people's high hopes behind creation of the state.

Baring his mind on the journey so far yesterday, during press interview in his office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat,Awka, as the State celebrates her 34 years anniversary,the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism,Comrade Don Onyenji,said that he was out of the team that came down from Enugu to Awka, Anambra State, as a serving public servant then.

Recalling that he was working in Anambra State Broadcasting Service at the 96.1fm and chanel 50 Tv then,the Commissioner, explained that they came down in the new state and started it with  a lot of expectations.

"I wouldn't say we met all of them because if wishes were horses,everybody would have achieved what he wanted to achieve as a human being",the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner,who doubled as a seasoned broadcaster and a unionist,confirmed that coming down to Anambra State,they faced a lot of issues of development, facilities, resources and leadership as well as the challenges of  starting new offices which he said were not easy with them.

"Our leaders were doing their best,whether they were the best or not,I don't want to be the judge,but along the way,all the leaders did their best and other sub group in the state",Comrade Onyenji echoed.

The Commissioner,who further maintained that he was active in the labour moment while also working as a broadcaster, stated that he contributed  his quota in information spectrum of the state, and thanked God for the state, expressing his common joy that today,here is Anambra State.

"And you shouldn't compare Anambra and Enugu State and few others who were there before us,that is the mistake people make",he said.

Comrade Onyenji,who noted that Anambra state is moving forward today ,opined that it is rising, and emphasized that the state didn't have a befitting government house before now, but today it has a befitting government house (the light house).

"Those days,we didn't have conference center, we have today, Before today, we never had a place like Solution fun city for people of Anambra state, today, we have a fun city were people can relax and enjoy. 

He equally,hinted that in those days,they didn't have good roads network in Awka and Anambra State at large, expressing his unreserved happiness that today,Awka has changed drastically,especially during Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's tenure as there are a lot of roads here and there in Awka. 

"Even the Willie Obiano, who did the flyovers, they were not there,so we never had secretariat like this.There are so many things that had happened in Anambra State.Apart from Awka, Onitsha is better now",the Commissioner reported. 

He stated that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is working in Onitsha, stressing that Ekwulobia never had a flyover, but they have it today and other roads that are yet to be dualized that were not there before now. 

He narrated that Governor Soludo is dualizing from Awka- Ekwulobia to Uga federal road now,saying  that Agulu-Nnewi and Ozubulu road had also being done, among so many others. 

"Awba-Ofemili, never have, their road has been done, Ndiukwuenu-Awa, have been done. So, we are working, we are progressing as Ndi-Anambra and the people are lucky to have a Governor with Soludo's status. 

According to him, it is not easy to have a former CBN Governor that did well as well as a former Special Adviser on economic matters to the President of this country and above all a defacto minister of economic planning, doing well as the Governor of the state. 

"Today, we have him as Governor of the state and we are approaching development horizontally,vertically and progressively. So, we are doing well. 

" I say congratulations and happy birthday anniversary to Anambra State", the Commissioner concluded.
