Nov 8: Criminalize Any Govt, Group Involve In Votes Buying...John Nwosu

There has been a call on the government agencies charged with the responsibilities of deliverying credible election in the country to criminalize any government, individuals or groups found guilty of votes buying and selling at the polling units during the November eight gubernatorial election in Anambra State. 

The ADC Governorshisp Candidate in the November eight gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Mr John Nwosu, made the call yesterday, at the 2025 Ofala Onitsha, during press interview, describing votes buying and selling as not only a heinous crime,but one of the biggest rape on the nation's democracy.

"Of cause, the government that is buying votes should be criminalize, because it shows that they are not competent", he said. 

" Where are they getting the money they are using for votes buying?.It is your money,it is the rape on democracy,the highest level of corruption.So we should all kick against it.

He attributed the ills surrounding the issues of votes buying and selling in the country at the polls, during an election to the hysterical attitude of some Nigerians, assuring that they would continue to sensitize the people. 

"Votes buying and selling are the biggest rape on democracy, because of #10,000 or #20,000,you sell your birth right for the next four years, then you start complaining. 

"Let me ask you one big question, is Anambra State working?. If it is not working, then why are you collecting money to vote for the government that is not working?. We all have ourselves to blame ",Nwosu opined. 

Nwosu, who stated that the major crux of the problem lies on the media, maintained that the people needed to be sensitized by educate them on the ills of the votes buying, so that it will become a thing of the past in the nearest future. 

He said that they are asking the government agencies charged with the responsibilities of deliverying credible election in the country to make sure that nobody is allowed to vote and show where the voted at the polls ,come November eight.

"In one of my media chats, one of my suggestions was that INEC needs to put a closed door for people to go in there,without phone,vote and drop their votes, drop their ballot paper there,before coming out,that way ,the issue of votes buying will be a thing of the past ," he explained. 

According to him, most important thing lies on the press to disseminate the information,telling people the evils of votes buying that because of #5,000,#10,000 or even #20,000 they mortgage themselves for the next four years, adding that it is not working. 

Mr.Nwosu,who believed that the nation's leaders had failed in terms of truth, stressed that personally, he trusts himself, and had been  keeping his words for the past thirty-one and half years as a manager  of a company.

"Now, but because of lack of trust that was why I went to court for swearing an affidavit so that people will believe me. 

" Of cause, zoning has come to stay, what has been happening was that the central zone, our thinking is that,oh whether the present administration is working or not will be allowed to do another four years and go away. So that it will become our turn. 

"But am saying no, four years in a life of a state is a lot, a child of four years, you know what it means",he noted.

The ADC candidate,who spoke among other things, charged the press to overtly send the message that Anambra state is not working, therefore,the present administration needed to be voted out come November eight gubernatorial election in the state.

He described the 2025 Ofala Onitsha as the promotion of Igbo culture and traditions,saying that the people cannot get better than this .

Mr. Nwosu a renowned businessman,made it very clear that Onitsha has a history, stressing that the people can now see that the difference between Onitsha and other communities is the fact that they have a very intelligent king, Obi of Onitsha (Agbogidi), whom he said gave ful report of his steward through the ofala brochure. 

"If you look at the brochure ,the document of the ofala,you will see the report of his stewardship, what he had done in the last one year and then, the timetable of tge Igbo  cultural programme for the next one year", Nwosu stated.

He called on the people of the state to change their lukewarm attitudes to electorial practice in the country, emphasising that the people have to start being strategic instead of doing a transaction .

The ADC flagbearer, affirmed that now, seventy percent of the outcome of an election depend on the people, pointing out that voter apathy was one of the major ways of rigging an election in the country.

He added that he believes in INEC,saying that what he is asking the people is to come out and vote,stand and defend their votes at the polls.
