How we defeated poverty, turned tenants to landlords at building materials market Ogidi - PG

The President General (PG) of Building Material International Market Ogidi Chief Jude Nwankwo alias Jolity has narrated how the market union under his leadership took bold steps to effectively address the issue of poverty in the market and in the same vein changed the status of many traders in the market from tenants to landlords. 

Addressing a crowded audience in the market during a prayer section to mark the end of year 2025, Chief Nwankwo explained that he firstly sort for peace in the market when his administration came on board and with the support of his executives and other relevant stakeholders including the Board of Trustees (BoT) and patrons, the target to bring peace in place was achieved. 

The PG who is also a patron of Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) stated that the return of peace paved the way for his administration to settle down to create wealth with a view to address the issue of poverty among the traders who lacked capital to boost their business adding that the initiative to create wealth has effectively yielded in addressing the issue of poverty in the market and also turned many traders from tenants to landlords. 

According to him, We have defeated poverty in this market through our initiative to create wealth. We have been providing grant and opportunities for traders to make money and it is working. As I speak we have over N200million outstanding commission to disburse to the beneficiaries who participated in one of the wealth creation initiative involving over 4000 plots of land. One person will go home with about N31million as commission from the N200million

The market leader who repeatedly attributed the achievements of his administration to strong backing executives, the stakeholders and the traders at large reassured of his commitment to continue to ensure and the upliftment of the traders called on those who are still tenants in the market to endeavor to work hard and get elevated to landlords before the tenure of his administration expires. 

He commended the traders for coming out enmass to vote in the Governor of Anambra State Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for a well deserved second tenure in office noting that the traders yielded to the call made by the market leadership during campaign for the election by coming out to reelect Soludo for second term in office.
