NAPTIP Executes Federal High Court Order, Seals Two Anambra Buildings in Underage Trafficking Trial

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has executed an order of the Federal High Court, Awka, by sealing two properties in Anambra State allegedly connected to the sexual exploitation of underage girls.

The Anambra State Command of the agency said the enforcement followed an interim attachment order granted by the Federal High Court, Awka Judicial Division, authorising the temporary seizure of the properties pending the conclusion of a criminal trial.

NAPTIP said the buildings were sealed on July 20, 2026, as part of efforts to preserve assets believed to have been used in the commission of alleged human trafficking-related offences.

The agency traced the development to an operation conducted on March 2, 2026, during which a suspect was arrested and several female victims aged between 15 and 20 years were rescued.

According to NAPTIP, the suspect was subsequently arraigned before the Federal High Court, Awka, on May 21, 2026, on multiple charges relating to the alleged procurement and recruitment of persons under the age of 18 for sexual exploitation.

It stated that, based on the outcome of its investigations, it approached the court with a Motion Ex-Parte seeking an interim attachment of the properties, which was granted on June 26, 2026.

The agency alleged that the affected buildings served as locations where underage girls were sexually exploited and said the interim attachment would remain in force pending the determination of the case before the court.

NAPTIP noted that the enforcement exercise was carried out peacefully by its operatives in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and members of the host community.

The agency said the action underscores its determination to use all legal measures available to dismantle human trafficking networks and prevent properties from being used to facilitate the exploitation of vulnerable persons.

It reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Anambra State Task Force on Human Trafficking and other partners to strengthen the fight against trafficking in persons, ensure justice for victims, and bring perpetrators to account through due process.
