It was a gathering of dignitaries from Nnewi and beyond as the Obi of Obiofia, Nnewichi-Nnewi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State, Chief Apostle Chukwunonye Onyejuluwa, and his wife, Lolo Evangelist Joy Onyejuluwa, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with a thanksgiving service.

The ceremony, held at St. Joseph’s Anglican Church, Obiofia Nnewichi-Nnewi, was officiated by the Bishop of Nnewi Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi.

In his sermon, Bishop Obi expressed concern over the rising rate of marital breakdowns.

He noted that many failed marriages can be traced to the adoption of foreign cultures, especially Western lifestyles.

He, however, said with satisfaction that Jewish marriages tend to endure because they follow biblical principles on marriage.

The Bishop emphasized that marriage was instituted by God to succeed, and that any deviation from God’s principles would lead to problems.

He also linked the collapse of societal values to the failure of marriages, noting that many intending couples invest heavily in wedding ceremonies but make little preparation for marriage itself.

The prelate urged intending couples to invest more quality time in building their marriage and place less emphasis on wedding preparations. He also identified mobile phones as one of the major distractions in modern marriages.

“There is so much stress in the country at the moment. Couples must have mercy on each other. For a marriage to work, they must learn to forgive and forget offenses whenever they occur,” he said.

“The sanctity of marriage must be sustained by the couple irrespective of offenses, arguments, and disagreements. Successful marriages are built by two great forgivers,” he added.

Highlights of the service included prayers for the couple, their families, Obiofia Nnewichi-Nnewi, Anambra State, and Nigeria.
Dignitaries at the service included the Obi of Nnewichi, H.H. Igwe George Onyekaba; member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Uzokwe; the Traditional Ruler of Alor in Idemili South LGA, H.R.M. Igwe Mike Okonkwo; Nnewi businessman, Hon. C. Martins; and other prominent personalities.
