Disability Advocate Uzoamaka Stella Ike Honoured for Digital Inclusion

Nigerian disability rights advocate and digital storyteller, Uzoamaka Stella Ike, has been honoured with the Social Media for Social Good Award 3.0 for her efforts to promote digital inclusion and amplify the voices of persons with disabilities.

The award was presented during the International Peace Summit in Abuja, organised by the Engage Empower Educate Initiative (EEEI).

Ike, who could not attend the ceremony, was represented by Capt. John Miracle, who received the award on her behalf.

The recognition acknowledges her work in using digital communication, storytelling and social media advocacy to draw attention to issues affecting marginalised communities, particularly women and young persons with disabilities.

Ike is the Founder and Chief Executive Director of FalconsCare Initiative for Women with Disabilities Empowerment (FIWDE), Chief Executive Officer of the Young Persons with Disabilities Network (YPDN), and Nigeria Country Representative of the Global Network of Young Persons with Disabilities.

Through social media campaigns, advocacy messages, storytelling and community engagement, she has used digital platforms to challenge stereotypes, promote disability rights and bring the experiences of persons with disabilities into public conversations.

Speaking on the recognition, Ike said the award represented more than a personal achievement, describing it as recognition of the stories shared and voices amplified through her advocacy.

“For me, this recognition is much bigger than a personal achievement. It represents the stories we have shared, the voices we have amplified, the conversations we have started, and the barriers we continue to challenge.”

She said digital platforms could provide important spaces for people and communities frequently excluded from mainstream discussions to participate and have their voices heard.

Beyond digital advocacy, Ike’s work covers policy engagement, gender equality, youth participation, climate justice, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and inclusive development.

The organisers said the award recognised her efforts to use social media to amplify women and young persons with disabilities and promote greater understanding of disability inclusion.

Ike expressed appreciation to the Engage Empower Educate Initiative and the International Peace Summit organisers for the recognition, as well as Capt. John Miracle for representing her at the ceremony.

She described the award as a renewed commitment to continue using storytelling and advocacy to promote inclusion. “I receive this recognition with gratitude and as a renewed commitment to keep telling the stories, keep amplifying voices, and keep creating space for inclusion.”

The Social Media for Social Good Award 3.0 adds to Ike’s advocacy and leadership engagements focused on disability rights, digital inclusion, gender equality and social justice.
