Police Harvest 34 Male, 1 Female Armed Robbers **Re-arrest 5 Escapee Prison Inmates Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested thirty-five suspects comprising thirty-four male and one female for their involvement and indictment in cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and other heinous crimes in some parts of the country. By Remi Ojo  ASUU Calls Off 8 Months Strike The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has agreed to call of its eight-month industrial action which has distrupted academic activities in the public universities. The union leadership reached the consensus during a meeting with the government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment,  Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja, on Friday. The government on its part has also pledged to increase the total payment to the union to N70 billion.    By Remi Ojo A policeman attached to the convoy of Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila,  has allegedly shot dead a newspaper vendor named Elechi Emmanuel Okereke at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, Sahara Reporters reports. The incident, which occurred at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, around 3 pm on Thursday, caused panic in the area. The victim was seen gasping for breath and unconscious in a video obtained by SaharaReporters while one of his colleagues tried desperately to revive him immediately after the shooting.   It was gathered that newspaper vendors upon sighting the Speaker’s convoy gathered to hail him but the overzealous security detail opened fire on them, killing Okereke in the process. By Ifeoma Ejiofor Court Sentence Man 39 To Death For Killing Lover A thirty nine year old automobile mechanic, Musiliu Owolabi has been sentenced to death by hanging by an Abeokuta High Court for killing his lover, Afusat Idowu. The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu in her judgement said that accused mechanic was guilty of allegation levelled against him. The judge noted that the offence committed by the 39 year old man contravened the provisions of Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of the state. She held that the evidence presented by the prosecution counsel against the convict was overwhelming. The state prosecution counsel, Mr James Mafe said that the the automobile mechanic committed the offence on February 1, 2018 at Camp area of Abeokuta, the state capital. The notice of the dissolution was contained in a press release signed by the National Secretary of PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan made available to journalists. The National Working Committee of PDP also disolved the South East Zonal Caretaker of the party. The dissolution according to the press release was announced on November 17 after a crucial meeting. The decisions according to Ologbondiyan are pursuant to the powers conferred on the National Working Committee by the PDP's constitution.
